Sports facilities developed at the cost of Rs 12 crore were dedicated to students of Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VSNGU) by chief minister Vijay Rupani at the university campus here. The project was jointly funded by Sports Authority of Gujarat (SAG) that contributed Rs 10 crore
VNSGU got a new 400-metre synthetic track, a 25-metre indoor swimming pool and an artificial hockey field. With this the VNSGU becomes second university in state to have a synthetic athletics track after Gujarat University
Till now students were practising on mud track at the same spot and now with synthetic track they got better facilities now. Athletes can now improve their performance by practicing on the new track,” said a VNSGU official
VNSGU is planning to develop temperature control system for warm water in the swimming pool. So far students have been practicing at swimming pools of other organisations
The artificial hockey field is claimed to be the first International Hockey Federation approved hockey ground in the region, said another VNSGU official
Earlier our hockey team used to practice in Valsad and majority of the students are from around Valsad. Now, they can practice on the university ground and we can hold tournaments here too,” he added
